A proposed tax levy to help maintain the Days Creek Rural Fire District is passing in early returns.
Measure 10-214, which would temporarily increase taxes by $1.20 per $1,000 of assessed property tax, currently has 72 yea votes to 52 nay votes in Tuesday’s primary election.
The Days Creek Rural Fire District serves about 420 residents across 23 square miles of forest and ranch land, according to its Facebook page.
“Our all-volunteer force relies primarily on community funding and dedicated volunteers,” the district said in a post urging yes votes. “Despite our commitment to safety, the district remains significantly underfunded. Much of our firefighting equipment consists of hand-me-downs from other departments that have upgraded their fleets. This older equipment is often more expensive to maintain and is frequently nearing the end of its serviceable life.”
