Days Creek is losing many teachers at the end of the school year and a few at the end of the calendar year. Students are sad to see them go, and wish them well on their journeys after DCCS.

As most already know the superintendent Mr. LaFontaine is leaving and already has someone taking over for him for next year: Mr. Daye Stone. At the end of the school year shop teacher Mr. Agee, first grade teacher Mrs. Sowers and second grade Mrs. Ellis will be retiring. Taking over for Mrs. Ellis will be current third grade teacher Mrs. Hooper, who will be replaced by Rebekah Sawyer, a current teacher’s aide and former school board member. Music teacher Dawnell Baise will also be leaving.
Sowers has been working at this Days Creek for 7 years. She is a huge part of the DCCS community and we are sad to see her go. During her retirement, she is going to spend time with her grandkids.
Sowers’ first year was during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“That first year was especially difficult,” she said. “In first grade, we do most of our work together as a class, so transitioning to sending packets home was a major adjustment. Families received assignments with very little context or explanation about how to help their children learn the material. Despite the challenges, I learned an incredible amount during that first year and adapted quickly to support students in a completely new way.”
In the high school and middle school part of our school we are losing Mr. Agee, our shop teacher. He has been with he DCCS community for 7 years.
“My favorite memory from DCCS is all of the fantastic students I have had the privilege of working with and helping them grow.” Agee said.
Agee will be moving from Roseburg to Florence. He will be spending retirement traveling with his wife. We wish him and his wife safe travels.
