SUTHERLIN — Days Creek FFA took fifth out of 10 schools at the district Veterinary Science competition on Dec. 13.
Teams were competing in various veterinary skills, including identifying pests, breeds and tools, according to FFA advisor Jonathan Lopez. They were tested on knowledge and examined on how to properly restrained animals and giving vaccinations.
“Vet science is a very intimidating competition for new members,” Lopez said. “But the kiddos rose to the occasion and showed tons of promise in various areas of the competition.”
Days Creek students who represented the chapter were sophomore Curtis McCullough, freshman Jeremy Poer and eighth-graders KC Hoffman, Asher Meisner, Missy Kobata, Rowen White-Davis and Owen Fain.
Eighty students took part in the competition, a 33-percent increase over last year Lopez said.
