No one in the 1st Grade will be whining about wanting a normal day on Nov. 16.
Mrs. Sowers’ class earned a pizza party by designing a “Magic School Bus” themed scarecrow in the Book Character Scarecrow contest put on by the Canyonville Library.
The 1st Graders winning entry was inspired by the “Magic School Bus” by Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen. It featured Miss Frizzle, the eccentric teacher at Walkerville Elementary who guides her class on outlandish but educational field trips on a magic school bus. The cowardly Arnold often complains to Ms. Frizzle “can we have a normal field trip today?”
“I like it because they fly to different places on the magic bus,” said Stone Lovemark. The 1st Grade made sure to make the bus on the scarecrow to be a Days Creek Charter School bus.
Aide Tammi Wallis coordinated decoration with the 15 students in the class.
The class has recently been learning the difference between healthy foods for and unhealthy foods, or in other terms “whoa foods” and “go foods.” While pizza is a “whoa food” for occasional eating, the class had a plan for justifying Wednesday’s treat.
“We can eat some fruits and vegetables before,” Moriah Giles said. “And we can exercise.”
