CAMAS VALLEY – The young Days Creek baseball team gained a confidence boost last Friday with its first league win against a longtime rival.

The Wolves beat Camas Valley, 11-5 for its second straight win.

“We took care of business in the second inning and never looked back,” coach Anthony Matchett said. “Cody [Matthews] got 2 strikeouts in the bottom of the inning and we took that momentum and put 5 runs on the board in the third.”

The Wolves scored 5 runs in the third inning and added 4 more in the fourth to take control of the game.

Senior Hayden Harris and junior Wyatt Geiger each hit a pair of doubles to lead Days Creek offensively. Geiger also drove in three runs.

“It was a relief,” Geiger said. “We made some solid contact. It was a big help in securing a win.”

Matthews, a junior who attends Milo Adventist Academy, struck out five in four innings of work on the mound to get the win. Freshman Xane Hopkins struck out three in three innings of relief pitching.

“I feel like we’ve been doing pretty good lately,” Hopkins said. “We’ve had a lot less errors and we hit the ball pretty good.”

Hopkins also hit a triple in the win.

Like Days Creek, Camas Valley is in the first year of fielding its own team.
