Fabelmans: Too long for teens

Spielberg movie best for history buffs

The Fabelmans: I’m not even sure what movie genre this movie would fit into. It’s a coming of age story about a boy that wants to be a filmmaker. I think.

This movie was hard to watch without my brain scattering every five minutes. The story line changed very frequently and added so many extra details that were not very relevant to the story.

This movie takes place in the 1960’s and is a semi-true story. This movie was 2 hours and 31 minutes long. That is 2 hours and 31 minutes of my life I will never be getting back.

Plot: Sammy Fabelman (Gabriel LeBelle in his first blockbuster role) falls in love with movies after his parents take him to see “The Greatest Show on Earth.” Armed with a camera, Sammy starts to make his own films at home, much to the delight of his supportive mother, played by Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain, Dawson’s Creek). Paul Dano (The Batman, Little Miss Sunshine) plays Sammy’s father.

So unless you are a history freak and for some reason want to watch a slow boring movie I would not recommend this movie. Don’t take your kids to this show, they will nag you to leave, just how I nagged my friends to leave.

When the movie was over I was relieved. I thought it was going to go on forever. And there were only four other people in the theaters other than my friends, which explains a lot.

They were all old people.

The Fabelmans is available on Amazon Prime and in theaters at Tinseltown in Medford.
