Children on the buses have been quite unruly as of recently. There have been many fights and a lot of cursing between most people on the buses. The elementary students and the high school students seem to have the most beef with each other, especially when a new seating arrangement was introduced, and the younger children started sitting in the back of the bus where the high schoolers usually sit.
Of course, there have been complaints about the fighting and noise as well, but there have also been efforts to fix this problem of the children fighting. Such as: separating the kids that fight the most, removing kids from the bus entirely (if given too many citations), and having a monitor on the bus (someone to make sure the kids get along.)
The Tiller-Trail Times took a sound level meter onto the DC7 and DC9 routes on Feb. 19. We recorded noises as high as 83 decibels in the morning and 86 decibels in the afternoon.
Teachers and staff members who ride the bus to keep the peace could be grading papers or taking care of other things rather than having to make sure that two (or sometimes more) kids don’t kill each other.
Has any of this helped the situation? Well, not really. Some of the best solutions so far have been to separate the children that fight often and have someone to watch the kids to make sure they don’t fight.
Currently, children are still fighting on the buses, but as stated earlier, there has been an effort to stop this.
