In a blow to health conscious eaters, Subway franchises in South County announced they were closing last week.
Manager Shana Brown announced in a Facebook post that Subways in Canyonville, Myrtle Creek and Parkway in Roseburg would be closing.
“With a heavy heart, I’m so sad to announce Subway is permanently closing in Canyonville, Myrtle Creek and Parkview,” Brown said. “I’m going to miss all my customers.”
The Canyonville store is the closest healthy food option to Days Creek Charter School.
“I feel that South County already doesn’t get much services,” Therapist Erin Payne said. “And it puts us at a disadvantage.”
Shop teacher Brian Agee agreed.
“I think that’s unfortunate because subway has always been a healthy alternative to fast food,” Agee said.
Canyonville is left with Ken’s Sidewalk Cafe, Burger King, Papa Morgan’s, Sunshine Espresso and restaurants in Seven Feathers Casino.
“I’m very disappointed because it’s my favorite place to eat at,” freshman Seanna Peters said.
Longtime student Ashlynn Merrell noted how long Subway had been in business.
“I’m sad,” she said. “I’ve been going there since I was a little kid.”
Not all students were sad about the closure. Some listed price increases, food quality, the loss of wrap options and personal preferences as reasons for not going to Subway.
Students and staff expressed hope that Subway would be replaced by Crumbl Cookies, Jersey Mike’s, a taco restaurant or a Dairy Queen.

Does anyone know what the reason is?

I heard that the owner went bankrupt.
