The Days Creek track team is bigger track than the school has had in head coach David Hunt’s tenure.
There are about 30 kids on the team, including six baseball players and five softball players who are doubling up.
“I am very excited to be coaching this team,” said Hunt, who began coaching the Wolves in 2014. “It’s the biggest team I’ve had in a long time.”
Two-sport players usually practice either after their practice or if they are free during 7th period practice.
Last year’s track team was all boys, and three graduated. Only junior Dylan Garner and sophomore Trenton Ladd returned.
Though the coaches may be happy some of the kids aren’t happy.
Because of the team being so big it takes longer to practice, Ladd said, and he doesn’t get as much individual practice as he did last year.
But other kids are excited about having such a large team.
The middle school track team is also large, with 41 athletes. They are coached by Travis Fuller and Jonathan Lopez. Mr. McCallum coaches both high school and middle school distance runners.
