On Feb. 14, the Days Creek leadership class took an all day field to the Brookdale Memory Care Facility in Roseburg.
They got there not knowing what to expect, but were soon mingling with the old folks to get to know each other, and passing out Valentines Day cards. After warming up to each other, the leadership class started to dance with them to a live band playing the cello and violin called The Old Time Fiddlers.
Natalie Harris and Ava Payne made a small circle and danced with some of the residents, bringing smiles to their faces. There were about 60 people living in Brookdale so everyone had a chance to join in the talking and dancing.
One very sweet story happened with Mariah and Daniel who came up to an elderly lady and asked her to dance. She refused, wanting them to dance instead. She even went so far as to push them together! Of course they refused and the old lady at last took their hands and began to dance with the both of them, but she did not seem satisfied.
“Isn’t it weird dancing with a girl,” she said, so Daniel soon was dancing with her alone. Before they knew it it was time to leave and the leadership class said their goodbyes. They stopped at Abby’s Legendary Pizza, to enjoy a lunch of heart shaped valentines pizzas.
After that they decided to do the walk through at the Wildlife Safari, but unfortunately it began to rain, and their stay was short-lived.
So instead the leadership class stopped at Dutch Bros., to get some well earned coffees, and piled back into the van for Days Creek. It had been such a wonderful experience to spread so much joy, and I’m sure all of them will want to do it again soon.
