This year science teacher Ryan Flerlage is coaching the biggest middle school volleyball Days creek has had in recent history, consisting of 31 girls.
The large increase from previous years is making possible a fifth grade team, also known as a C team, which is new for Days Creek and for Flerlage.
Playing time will be at a premium for all of the player.
“The amount of play time the girls get depends on their attitudes, participation, and their skill level,” Flerlage said. “As well as their grades and behavior.”
Fifth graders don’t get much play time because they are technically not in middle school but they are allowed to play so they have experience for next year and are better prepared.
This year Flerlage has some goals for his team and coaching because as he said “there is always room for improvement.”
His goals for the team is for the girls to learn to respect one another and their coaches, as well as to learn to have a good team spirit and cheer for their teammates, probably the most important one is he want the girls to learn to love the sport and come back every year and play even through high school.
They are playing schools in the Little Fir League twice this season. This season is looking more and more promising than previous years, Flerlage said. that he feels like this year is going to be better than the last few years he has coached the middle school, and that he is excited to see how it goes.
Flerlage said he wishes they had more space for practices and more coaches. Chrissy Hoffman is assisting, and he said he and the team appreciates her support.
